Mikel Arteta has revealed how safeguarding rules mean Ethan Nwaneri has to get ready in a different dressing room to his Arsenal team-mates on match days.

Nwaneri has broken into Arsenal’s first team this season and the 17-year-old scored his seventh goal of the campaign on Sunday during a 5-1 victory over Manchester City.

Fellow academy graduate Myles Lewis-Skelly has also burst onto the scene and the 18-year-old scored his first senior goal in the win against City.

Arteta believes the pair, who are good friends, have been helped by the fact they have broken into the first team at the same time.

And the Arsenal boss thinks that has been even more helpful for Nwaneri as he is unable to get ready in the same changing rooms as his team-mates on match day.

Safeguarding rules mean that players must be 18 or older to share a dressing room with the senior squad.

Lewis-Skelly, after turning 18 in September, is able to be part of the first-team dressing room on matchdays - but Nwaneri must get changed elsewhere before joining in with the final team talk.

“When you see those two (Lewis-Skelly and Nwaneri) walking next to each other, talking to each other, there is a bond there and a chemistry there,” said Arteta.

“I imagine for them it is special because at the moment they are still in different dressing rooms [at the training ground].

“Ethan cannot be in our dressing room still, which is unbelievable. He needs to get dressed somewhere else, even on match day.

“So to have somebody close to him that has that trust, that confidence, that link, I think it is lucky. They are very lucky to have each other.”

Former Arsenal star Nicklas Bendtner avoided being stabbed during a horrific incident after a knife-wielding individual attacked the group he was with while visiting New York.

"The Dane - who scored 47 goals in 171 appearances for the Gunners - headed Stateside for a tour of the Big Apple last week when what was meant to be a casual stroll through the streets turned into a moment of true terror.

CCTV footage shows Bendtner and his entourage walking through the plush setting of Manhattan's Upper West Side last Wednesday just seconds before a knifeman approaches them.

The next frame then shows a bearded man wearing shorts and a t-shirt sprinting in the direction of the visitors with a knife clutched in his left hand.

He is then seen fleeing from the scene with Bendtner later revealing that another member of the group - who is also a former professional footballer - was stabbed and subsequently rushed to hospital.

The 55-year-old stab victim was treated for face and ear injuries at New York's Mount Sinai Hospital with the knifeman later arrested and charged with attempted murder and assault.

Bendtner later confirmed his presence after being captured on camera, telling Danish publication bt.dk: 'Yes, I can confirm that it is me in the video."

 "'Could it have been me who was attacked? I have no comment about that.

'But I can confirm that it's me on the video - it's hard to run away from. The victim, a former professional soccer player, was walking with friends.'

The attacker was later confirmed by police as local New Yorker Joshua Zinberg with it alleged that the 25-year-old suffers from mental health issues and has a long criminal record.

Zinberg's mother reportedly identified her son as the assailant after spotting him during television coverage of the incident as appeals were made to find the attacker.

Mayor of New York Eric Adams later shifted some of the blame onto the closure of mental health facilities in the city, stating: 'We walk past people every day that we know they do not have the ability to make the right decision to take care of themselves.

'This is a problem that was created when we closed the psychiatric facilities many years ago.

'We closed them without giving people the support that they deserve.'

 Arsenal reclaimed first place in the Premier League on Wednesday with a comfortable 2-0 victory over Luton Town at the Emirates Stadium.

The Gunners leapfrogged Liverpool for the top spot in the standings, if only briefly as the Reds will face cellar dwellars Sheffield United on Thursday.

Regardless, Arsenal rode a dominant first half to victory, cruising through the second half as Luton provided little trouble. With it being a midweek match, Mikel Arteta rotated many lesser used players into the lineup, with the likes of Thomas Partey, Reiss Nelson and Emile Smith Rowe earning rare starts.

Arteta was pleased with the way his new-look team responded, putting in a professional performance and keeping another clean sheet for the league's stingiest defence.

"We managed to rotate and freshen the team up a bit," the Arsenal boss told BBC Match of the Day. "Those who came in did really, really well.

"We scored two very good goals and in the second half, credit to Luton they are a really good side and difficult to play against but overall [we earned] a win and another clean sheet and in a couple of days we play again."

Arteta singled out the squad players for the job they did on Wednesday, stressing the importance of having a strong bench during a crowded part of the schedule.

"To have a squad they have to play," he said. "We have to make those decisions. The contribution they make to the team was very good.

"Now we recover and go again because we have Brighton away [on Saturday]."
