CARLOS ALBERTO: THE BRAZILIAN LEGEND IS NO MORE
The Brazilian legend and captain of the 1970 Brazilian World Cup-winning team Carlos Alberto Torres died at age 72 after suffering from a heart attack...
'The Captain' as he was nicknamed by Brazilians was the winner of the Jules Rimet Trophy 46 years ago, he was a leader no doubt and one of impeccable quality...
He came from the full line-back position that was Brazil's pillar...He scored on of the most memorable goal as Brazil routed Italy 4-1 in 1970 to lift the World Cup...Later on he became a coach although it did not work so well but he managed Fluminense win their domestic cups and also helped his old club Flamengo win their 1983 Brazilian Championship trophy...He also coached in Nigeria, Oman and Azerbaijan...
He went on to became a fierce TV presenter and Pundit whereby he had a sharp sense of humor and he never held back is standards dropped by blasting directors, players and the football fraternity as a whole...His trademark was his raspy voice...
Pele has paid tribute to a legend...Pele played with Alberto for the Brazilian team, Santos and the star studded New York Cosmos which included Beckenbaeuer...Franz Beckenbauer also paid tribute to "brother" Alberto...He wrote on his twitter account with a picture of them coming from a charity event and wrote "Heidi and me are deeply shocked. Carlos Alberto was like a brother to me, he was one of my best friends."...
Statement from CBF: "The President of the CBF, Marco Polo Del Nero, has declared official mourning for three days. The Organisations flags are at half-mast. All matches in competitions organised be CBF will have one minute of silence. Carlos Alberto Torres leaves a huge legacy of achievements and significant collaboration for the development of our football."..."Thank you Capita.
