Mario Pineida, a player for Barcelona Sporting Club of Guayaquil, was killed in broad daylight in the Samanes neighborhood, in the north of Guayaquil. The 33-year-old defender was the victim of a targeted shooting, a tragedy that has shocked soccer fans across South America.
According to initial reports, the incident occurred outside a butcher shop, where Pineida was with his partner. They were suddenly attacked by gunmen and suffered multiple gunshot wounds, collapsing at the scene.
