UEFA has slapped the Serbian Football Association with a €14,500 fine after they breached two regulations during their Euro 2024 defeat to England.
The Serbs lost 1-0 to the Three Lions in their Group C opener on Sunday night, with Jude Bellingham netting a first-half header. Less than a day later, UEFA announced they had initiated disciplinary proceedings against Serbia.
A statement released on Monday stated, via the Mirror: "Disciplinary proceedings have been instigated in accordance with Article 55 of the UEFA Disciplinary Regulations (DR) following the UEFA European Championship group stage match between Serbia and England (0-1) played on 16 June 2024 in Gelsenkirchen, Germany." "Charges against Football Association of Serbia (FSS): Throwing of objects, Art. 16(2)(b) DR, Transmitting a provocative message unfit for a sports event, Art. 16(2)(e) DR.
"The UEFA Control, Ethics and Disciplinary Body (CEDB) will decide on the matter in due course. Furthermore, an UEFA Ethics and Disciplinary Inspector will conduct a disciplinary investigation regarding alleged discriminatory behaviour." On Wednesday evening, it was confirmed that UEFA had imposed a €4,500 penalty on the Serbian Football Association for "throwing of objects" and an additional €10,000 for "transmitting a provocative message not fit for a sports event".
Albania were hit with fines post-match against Italy, which ended in a 2-1 defeat for the former. Albanian supporters caused a stir when Nedim Bejrami scored an early goal, setting off large pyrotechnics to celebrate. Their actions, among other infractions, resulted in financial penalties amounting to €37,375. Specifically, for the "lighting of fireworks", the Albanian FA was fined €10,000.
