Agnes Tirop, 25, was found dear with stab wounds in her home in Iten, a very popular training town for athletes in western Kenya.
Her husband, Emmanuel Rotich, is the prime suspect in the murder after preliminary investigations by the police.
The husband fled after the killing and was apprehended in Mombasa trying to flee to a neighbouring country.
Ms. Tirop last month broke the world record for women only 10km race in Germany by 28 seconds, finishing with a time of 30 minutes and 1 second.
Athletics Kenya - Kenya’s top governing body, suspended all athletics activities in Kenya for two week in mark of respect for the fallen hero.
